Dr. Emily Bigelow
Growing up in Virginia and New Jersey, Dr. Bigelow came to Nashville for college and never left. With a passion for literacy, especially children's books and writing development, Dr. Bigelow has worked in education for over 20 years. After teaching Kindergarten for 5 years, Dr. Bigelow attained a M.Ed. in Special Education, followed by a Ph.D. in Education with a focus on Elementary Literacy. During this time, she also worked with pre-service teachers in literacy methods courses at the undergraduate and masters level.
Returning to the elementary school, Dr. Bigelow has been a technology teacher and an instructional coach. This will be her 6th year as a literacy coach in MNPS. Dr. Bigelow enjoys thinking about teaching reading and writing, working alongside teachers and engaging with students in classrooms. When not at work, Dr. Bigelow can be found walking at Radnor, reading, drinking chai tea, journalling and driving her 2 children around town.
