In the Beginning was a Garden
Like all ideas, there is genesis. In our case the genesis was the formation of our school garden in 2008. Our P.E. teacher, Darlene Nall, approached our Librarian with an article she had read about gardening being a way to introduce students to skills that might grow into life-long healthy living. A grant was written and the Garden was off to a modest start. Two beds were constructed by Gardens of Babylon. They have been partner ever since. They supplied the expertise in building our first beds and teaching kids to plant them.
As with all beginnings you never know where a journey may lead. You can see how our experiences with nature shaped us and in turn shaped our programs. Read about all the people who have contributed to our program and children.
Warner Parks and Laura Lea Knox turn 90!
Westmeade has deep connections to Warner Parks. This delightful article is about the 90th birthday of the parks and of Laura Lea Knox, whose father donated the land for the park. Her grandchildren attended Westmeade!
Each day we are honoring the memory of her father and carrying on her legacy of teaching children to love nature!
