Policies I need to know
These are rules that make our school safe and secure. By reading them, you'll be prepared and will have no surprises!
Always bring a note when you return to school to explain your absence. A note must accompany your child upon his/her return to school if the absence is to be excused.
The State of Tennessee dictates what may be an excused absence. These reasons are:
1. Personal illness
2. Illness in the family requiring temporary help from the child; a physician’s statement may be required.
3. Death of a family member; the absence is limited to three school days.
4. Head lice, up to three days per infestation.
5. Recognized religious holidays regularly observed by persons of the child’s faith.
6. Court appearances or legal mandates.
Vacations are unexcused. Teachers are not required to give make-up work.
Regular attendance is extremely important! Please make every effort to have your child at school each day. If a student has five or more unexcused absences per nine weeks, a referral will be made to the Metro Schools Attendance Office or to the Attendance Review Board, an arm of the Metropolitan Nashville/Davidson County Juvenile Court.
Birthday parties are not allowed during school hours.
With all of the allergies this day and age, we will be changing how we celebrate your child’s birthday at school. You will have two options to celebrate your child’s birthday at school.
Send a special pencil, warm fuzzy, or sticker for each student in class or purchase a book for the class library in your child’s name.
No food treats are allowed in the cafeteria to eliminate the risk for certain students.
Birthday party invitations may not be given out at school unless invitations are brought for every child in the classroom.
Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
The building opens at 7:40am.
Students are dismissed from the Gym, Cafeteria and Lobby to go to classrooms at 7:45.
School begins at 8:00 a.m. Students must be seated and ready to begin the instructional day when announcements begin at 8:00.
Students arriving after 8:00 are tardy and must be signed in by an adult in the office.
Dismissal of Students
Students are dismissed at 3:00 p.m.
Early dismissals are discouraged. Teachers use every minute of the instructional day and early releases create a disruption for students. Exclusions to this policy include religious training, doctor/dentist visits, guidance sessions, or other activities approved by the principal.
There will be no early dismissals after 2:30pm.
Early dismissals for convenience are strongly discouraged.
Our school cares about the safety of your children. Therefore, children will not be dismissed from their classrooms. All parents and visitors must come to the office to sign a student out of school. Office personnel will then call the appropriate classroom, and have the child dismissed to the office. Students will only be dismissed to adults listed on the student profile form. Anyone picking up a child must show identification.
