Technology Integration

• Discovery School is a site that has many features worth exploring. It has lesson plans. It allows you to create tests like this one I created for a beginning library lesson. You must become a member. You have instructions in email. Once you are a member you can create puzzles, quizzes, lesson plans and you may find videos which can be accessed at home and downloaded so they would not depend on a subscription.

What is Media Literacy? Media literacy is basically being aware when someone is selling you a bill of goods! We learned this using advertising and newspapers/T.V. ads when we were growing up. Such messages are more insidious on the web.

Reading Resources

developed by the Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) at Pacific Resources for Education and Learning (PREL) to help meet President Bush's challenge to have all children read at grade level by third grade! An amazing site that lets you specify the level, type of resource and skill and then provides you support.

• The International Reading Association is a great resource for all things reading. 
• The National Council of Teachers of English has a lesson FABULOUS lesson plan bank.
• Reading Planet is a Dept. of Education Website designed to encourage students to read. The Writer's Block section allows students to add to a story during a month long collaborative effort and read it at the end of the month!
• Reading Rockets is another Dept. of Education site dedicated to younger readers!
• Try the SpellingBee site!

Tutorials

• Learn to keyboard with this simply program -- and it is FREE. This BBC site is great for the kids.
• Tutorials on every major program in use in schools. This is the most complete site for tutorials on various programs I have found.
• Internet Tourbus is the oldest online tutorial for learning to navigate the web. delivered in short lessons over a period of months it is a great way to learn the net.

• National Library of virtual manipulatives
• Math tools and games - a lot of great resources to explore
• Teach R Kids Math is a site just for pre-K through 3rd grade. It has wonderful printable things, as well as interactive activities for students.
• Math Dictionary helps kids picture and manipulate online to learn math concepts
• Aplus Math- Here are fabulous printable resources. You tell the program you grade level and what you want to create AND it makes a printable worksheet for you! You need flash cards? Tell the computer what you want the student to learn and viola! YOU have a printable set of flashcards!
• Rainforest Math is out of Great Britain. Easy to use and find activities and games to reinforce what you teach!
• Johnnie Math - a site where you can find activities (games) for most of the concepts you are teaching!
• Eisenhower National Clearinghouse provides both lesson plans and resources but also gives you the 12 best math and science sites each month. This is a huge site which incluedes opportunities for professional development.
