If I Only Had a Brain!

The computer cannot think. It is only a machine. What makes the computer helpful is how you use it! Complete the following scavenger hunt and you will learn a lot about what a computer is! Then enjoy a game of hangman after you print out your answerS.

Type your answers in the dialogue box provided. This isn't a game of Cat and Mouse, you know!



 

1. A computer is not able to hear or see so how can you communicate with it?

2. How can the computer communicate with you?

3. What is hardware?

4. Now that you know what hardware is tell me three components of the computer that are hardware?

5. Well, if the computer can't think and the hardware is just stuff you can touch, what makes the computer work?

6. When Ms. McIntyre says place the cursor at the begining of a sentence and highlight it what do you do?

7.  The Menu Bar appears at the top of all programs. It's called a menu because it is like a restuarant menu. When you click on an item on the the menu bar, a whole menu of choices appear! What word does the menu bar always start with?

8. To go to the Internet you must use a program called a browser. It has a button bar under the menu bar. What is the first button called?

9. On the desktop you will find a folder with all the programs you will need at Westmeade Elementary School. What is that folder called? If you can't remember minimize everything and see if you can find the folder that contains AR!! What is that folder called?

10. When you finnish at the computer you must always close all the programs you have open so that the next student sits down to see only folders to open on the ________ .

 

11. Print out your 10 answers and then come back and enjoy a game of hangman on Ms. McIntyre!

 

How to highlight!

You select the text, and point with the mouse at the beginning of the sentence. Then you left click and drag across the sentence. You will see color cover your text. This is highlighting. You do it so that you can move, delete or correct copy. How do you highlight? POINT, CLICK, & DRAG!!

 

YOU DON'T HAVE TO TYPE YOUR ANSWER - YOU CAN CUT AND PASTE IT INTO THE DIALOGUE BOX! HERE IS HOW.

 

1. Highlight the text above.

2. Next click on Edit on the Menu Bar.

3. Click on Copy.

4. Now you must go back to your test. Place the cursor in the dialogue box, and click on Edit and paste to insert the text into your your answers.

 

Can you do it?

DeskTop -

Everything that is on the screen is called the desktop. When all the programs are put away all the desktops in the library should look alike.

To Print

Go to file. Click and bring down the pop-up menu. Move the arrow down the list to print and click again. A dialog box will appear. Click O.K. It will print while you are walking to the computer behind the circulation desk. Pick up the job in the printer. Did you put your names on it? Turn it in!
