    How to choose a book

    Is it too hard?

The 5 finger test is an easy way to find out if a book is too hard. Read any page in the book. Each time you don't know a word, hold up one finger. If you have five fingers up by the end of the page - the book is too hard. You can also use you AR level to help select a book that is on the right reading level for you. Once you find books that you can read you must select those that you WANT to read!

Am I interested in this story?

To do this read what the publisher has placed on the book jacket to tell you a bit about the story. Finally, if you start the book and don't like it -- DON'T READ THE BOOK.

Now that I can read -- I want to read REAL BOOKS!
